Use this checklist to assess your organization’s name. Answer YES or NO for each question and see how many criteria out of 10 you meet.
1. Does the name represent what your organization does?
2. Does the name indicate the audiences you serve?
3. Does the name distinguish your organization from your competition?
4. Is the name short? (If you refer to it by its initials, it is too long.)
5. Is the name easy to spell and pronounce?
6. Does the name inspire confidence?
7. Does the name have a positive connotation?
8. Does the name have an emotional component?
9. Does the name suggest something that people can imagine?
10. Does the name have a metaphorical meaning?
11. Does the name appeal to your audiences?
12. Will the name allow your organization to expand services?
13. Does the name translate well into other languages (if appropriate)?
14. Is an appropriate URL available?
